your Student
Loan
and
allowance sorted before you begin your
studies. The earlier you do this before
your course the less stress you will have.
It can take 2-3 weeks to get your loan
sorted around enrolment time, which can be
really frustrating for paying course
costs. Make sure you organise your
bursary payment at the same time.
Get
a
Student
Bank account.
These offer cheaper fees as well as the
ability to get a Credit Card and cheap
Contents Insurance. Contents Insurance is
a must when moving out from home as it
covers all you possessions in case they
are damaged or stolen. A Credit Card is
useful for online purchases such as travel
which are normally priced cheaper online,
but be warned, you are spending money you
don't have!
Apply
for a
Community
Services Card,
this makes it cheaper for seeing the
doctor and buying prescriptions.
Get
a
0800
number
or Calling
Card
setup. This makes it cheaper to call your
parents if they are prepared to pay! An
0800 allows you to make toll free calls to
a designated number – normally your
parents. A password can be put on this
number to stop other people from using it.
A Calling Card allows you to charge your
phone calls back to a designated account,
so you to make the calls from any phone,
anywhere. A Yabba
card
is
similar to this except you pay for the
usage before you actually use it, so you
can’t rack up huge bills. These solutions
are all cheaper than calling collect.

This is highly recommended if you own a
